Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) announced today the launch of “tijara” a new efficient digital banking platform for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that enables businesses to apply for loans online for the first time in the kingdom.
The launch coincides with the UN’s Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day (MSMEs) and is a key milestone in Bahrain Development Bank’s strategy to drive digital transformation and support the growth of small businesses and startups in Bahrain by providing efficient and simplified banking solutions.

In line the financial and economic stimulus package launched by his Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the affected sectors by the pandemic, and the commands of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the kingdom to follow the directions, Bahrain Development Bank announced a special aid for the business owners in all the business incubators that are affiliated to the bank including Bahrain Business Incubator Centre, Women Development Centre “Riyadat” and the Farmers Market in Hoorat A’ali by waving the rents for the clients who meet the conditions and criteria of the waivers for three months (June, July, August 2021).

In line with the royal directives, to launch a financial and economic package for a period of three months to support the sectors affected by the pandemic and following His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, instructions on the implementation of these directives; The Bahrain Development Bank Group announced that the tenants of Sitra mall who meet the conditions and criteria related to the exemption process are exempted from rent installments for a period of three months (June, July, August 2021).

Bahrain Development Bank (BDB), the Kingdom’s specialist Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), emphasized its commitment to continue supporting the SME sector on the path to recovery from the global pandemic. The Bank announced that during the first quarter of 2021 it has extended 153 financing facilities to new and existing SME’s.
These facilities totaling to BD 6.09 million are expected to facilitate the creation of 100 new jobs. Included in this are facilities totaling to BD 371k under the “BDB-Riyadat Scheme” to support women owned enterprises.

Bahrain development bank has offered golden sponsorship to His Royal Highness crown prince’s volleyball cup for 2020-2021 athletic season, as part of the bank’s constant attempts to support the athletic championships and events in Bahrain.
Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) Chairman Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa expressed his appreciation for BDB sponsorship and support for the association.
The Volleyball Association Chairman also praised the CEO of BDB group Mr. Sanjeev Paul for his efforts pointing that sponsoring this competition is a sign of the successful partnership between the bank and the association, which boosts the latter’s efforts to improve the local competitions.

Bahrain Development Bank (BDB), the Kingdom’s premier SME Bank, announced that it has achieved positive results and strong growth again in 2020, posting a net profit of BHD 563K despite the years’ challenging economic and credit environment,
During the year, the bank significantly stepped up its financing activity to support SMEs with total disbursements increasing by 179% to BHD 106 million (2019 BHD 37.9 million).The Bank was also a focal point for assisting SMEs under the Government’s Liquidity Support Scheme.

Bahrain Development Bank announces the launch of Fawateer Assignment in collaboration with BENEFIT, as part of their efforts to support SMEs. Fawateer Assignment is a special arrangement that will enable BDB’s customers who are or who want to be billers on Fawateer to secure their loans by having all the Fawateer proceeds of the biller to be directly deposited in the biller’s accounts with BDB, through the Fawateer service provided by BENEFIT.

BDB significantly stepped up its financing activity to support SMEs during the year with total disbursements increasing by 274% to BD 96.4 Million in the first nine months compared to BD 25.8 Million during similar period in 2019.
The Bank posted a profit of BD 1.063 Million in the first 9 months of 2020 compared to BD 1.017 Million in the same period in 2019.
Commenting on the performance of the Bank, Sanjeev Paul, Group CEO said we are investing heavily in our digital capabilities to drive customer centricity within BDB.

Shohra comes with an extensive experience in Human Resources management, in strong regional and international organizations like Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, Citi, Emirates Group (Emirates Airlines) and Ernst & Young.
She holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Middlesex University Business School of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Bahrain, in addition to being accredited as a fellow member at the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).

Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) Group was the Event Partner of the MENA Angel Investors Summit 2019 which was organized by Tenmou – Bahrain’s first Business Angels Company. Bahrain Development Bank Group’s (BDB) CEO Mr. Sanjeev Paul stated that the number of small loans disbursed in the first half of 2019 has doubled by 2.5 times comparing to the number of small loans disbursed in the same period of last year.
“This is a great achievement by our Bank in supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses and SMEs who are a key pillar of the economy,” he said.
The achievement is a result of BDB’s keenness to enhance its objectives and services that supports and develops SMEs through its comprehensive “Entrepreneurship Ecosystem” which is an integrated system consisting of a range of financial services in addition to non-financial services such as training, counselling, incubation, networking, creativity and innovation.

As part of the continuing support of the local and startup eco-system Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) co-hosted a luncheon at the Capital Club for visiting members from the Business Families Institute (BFI) of Singapore for a GCC tour organized by Investcorp.
Investcorp organized a week-long tour for the BFI delegates across three GCC cities which started in Bahrain and included Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The purpose of this tour was to provide the BFI members an opportunity to interact with the local business community, experience the art & culture and be exposed to the various focus sectors of economy including startups and SMEs.

Manama 15.4.2019: Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) announced the launch of Point of Sales Assignment in collaboration with CrediMax.
With a view to further support Start-up and SME’s, BDB has entered into a collaboration with CrediMax to be able to obtain “POS Assignment on card receivables.” This would provide credit mitigation and facilitate provision of financing to SMEs who are unable to provide other forms of security.
The Point of Sale Assignment can be used by retailers and service providers that accept debit and credit cards as a mode of payment, to enhance the security package that is required for raising finance by simply assigning their point of sale sales proceeds to BDB.

Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) hosted its first ‘Dynamic Team Building Program’ for 27 of its young and ambitious employees at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa.
The one-day program was designed by Golden Trust and taught by professional HABC level 3 Certified Trainer and Coach Sameera Ahmed Ali.
The five-hour program, spearheaded by BDB Group CEO Sanjeev Paul, is part of an extensive three-year HR strategy initiated by BDB to further develop inter-departmental team excellence and leadership skills.

The Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) has launched a $100 million Venture Capital Fund of Funds aimed at boosting the start-up ecosystem in Bahrain and the Middle East.
The fund was set up following instructions from HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and chairman of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB).
The Al Waha Fund of Funds will invest in venture capital funds that have a presence in Bahrain – providing additional capital to funds supporting start-ups in Bahrain and across the Middle East, said a statement.

As part of Startup Bahrain Week, Rowad talk – organized by Bahrain Development Bank’s Rowad program – hosted entrepreneur Elie Habib, co-founder of Anghami.
The leading music streaming service in the Middle East and North Africa was launched in 2012.
Mr. Habib and his partner Mr. Eddy Maroun seized the opportunity of lack of proper digital music service and launched Anghami. Since then, Anghami has reached over 40 million users, streaming over to 800 million songs every month.
