Manama, Bahrain – 25 April 2024:
The Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) have announced their collaboration to plant trees at the Sitra Mall. This initiative forms part of the national afforestation campaign “Forever Green,” and aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national plans to expand green spaces to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The tree-planting ceremony, held on Wednesday 24th April 2024 at the Sitra Mall, was graced by the presence of distinguished guests including Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the NIAD, and Ms. Dalal Al Qais, CEO of BDB, alongside members of the Bank’s executive management team.
On this occasion, Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the NIAD commented, “This generous contribution from BDB aims to increase the green spaces in the Mall’s outdoor courtyards to create a more sustainable environment and enhance the aesthetic appearance of the area.” She also extended her deep gratitude and appreciation to BDB for its continued support of agricultural initiatives and projects, especially the “Forever Green” campaign, and the permanent farmers’ market in Hoorat A’ali.
For her part, Ms. Dalal Al Qais, CEO of BDB stated: “We are delighted to partner with the NIAD on this impactful initiative. This collaboration is one of several endeavours that we have actively pursued to achieve sustainable development goals. We remain committed to supporting local and international efforts aimed at achieving net-zero carbon neutrality by 2060.”
BDB’s participation in this initiative reflects the broader collaboration between public and private sectors in Bahrain to implement environmental projects across the country. The “Forever Green” tree plantation campaign targets increasing green spaces in public areas, improving air quality, and combating the adverse impacts of rising carbon emissions.
