BDB Fishermen Grant Support Scheme

The Fishermen Grant Support Scheme programme is designed to support the sustainable growth of the local fisheries sector and help Bahraini fishermen increase their productivity. In partnership with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Tamkeen, the grant can be utilised to purchase a new boat, Banoosh, engine or any new fishing equipment. Boat and Banoosh purchases will be granted a maximum of 50% of the invoice value capped at BD 2,500 – including engines and fishing equipment. The maximum amount will be based on the classification of the boat or Banoosh (refer Scheme details for more information)

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a Bahraini National
  • The applicant must be Pre-approved by the Directorate of Fisheries
  • The applicant must be the sole registered owner (joint ownership is not permitted)
  • The customer should not be delinquent with BDB fishery schemes
  • Only quotations or invoices from BDB’s approved supplier list will be accepted
  • Must not be owned in whole or in part, by more than fifty percent (50%), by employees of Tamkeen unless prior written approval is provided by Tamkeen.
  • Must not be owned by members of BDB board of directors or employees.

Required Documents

  • A copy of your CPR and/or Passport
  • A confirmation letter from the Directorate of Fisheries approving the fisherman and the requested items
  • A valid Commercial License from the Directorate of Fisheries Wealth
  • A valid boat license
  • A registration document issued by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications
  • Quotations from approved supplier for a new boat or Banoosh; and/or new engine from and/or fishing equipment.
  • Completed Grant application form.

If you are a Bahraini fisherman with a valid license, you can apply for this grant after getting an approval letter from the Directorate of Fisheries. This grant will support your trade by enabling you to enhance your productivity through purchasing a new boat, Banoosh/Dhow, engine or any other fishing equipment required.
The list of approved suppliers will be available in the application form or you may contact the BDB Fisheries Department to provide you the list.
To apply for the grant, kindly visit your nearest BDB branch to fill out your application form.
No fees are payable by the applicant for the grant.
This is a grant which is being extended by Tamkeen through BDB to support the local fishing industry improve productivity to contribute better to the country’s economy. This is therefore not a loan and need not be paid back. However, Tamkeen will expect that you use the money in a judicious manner to meet the needs of your needs.
50% of the cost of invoice cost will be met under the grant subject to a cap of BD 2,500 if you are Banoosh (more than 26 feet long) owner or BD 1,500 if you are a boat (upto 25 feet long) owner. The grant will be disbursed in to your account with BDB and once you have contributed an equal amount, BDB will remit the invoice amount directly to the supplier.
After receiving the approval, you will have 6 months to utilize a minimum of BD 500 of the grant amount. In case the grant is not utilized at all within 6 months, the application will be cancelled and you will be required to submit a new application with updated documents.
Yes, but only after 6 months provided there are no over dues under the loan.
In the case of purchase of boat or Banoosh, BDB representative will conduct a site visit to verify condition and record the same with photos.
The answer to all these questions is Yes.
Application for the Grant is required to be submitted only once to BDB. On approval, if you are a boat owner, you can submit 3 payment requests to BDB to pay suppliers with each being a minimum of BD 500. If you are a Banoosh owner who has been approved BD 2,500/- grant, you can make 5 payments to suppliers under each Grant with each being a minimum of BD 500. You may also make payments to different approved suppliers if required, for varied fishing items subject to other terms being met.
Yes, in case you has previously purchased the boat, Banoosh, engine or fishing items, from approved suppliers and within the last 3 months of application, you can apply for reimbursement. The amount will be credit to their account within the specified cap, provided you have paid 100% of the invoice amount.
Fisherman applying for the grant will also be eligible to separately apply for a Fisheries loan from BDB.
Yes, you may apply for the grant even if you have a loan with BDB provided you are not delinquent under any facility availed from BDB (Fisheries or any other scheme).
Construction costs including but not limited to the development, fabrication, extension, assembling, installation, repair, upkeeping, maintenance, renewal, removal, renovation, alteration, converting, dismantling or demolition of a boat and engineering infrastructure in areas such as electrical, piping, painting, etc. are excluded from this grant.
You may apply for the Grant during the first two (2) years from the date of launch only (February 1st , 2024). No approvals will be issued after that date.
